Hedo Turkoglu 3-point Buzzer Beat Downs Celtics

(Photo courtesy of Fernando Medina) Without Kevin Garnett, one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference needed a Hedo Turkoglu fade away buzzer beater to win. With his shot the Orlando Magic defeated the Celtics Sunday afternoon 96-93. Perhaps Turkoglu wanted to put an exclamation mark on the game to try and earn a spot on the all-star team. Hedo is having statistically his best season averaging 19.3 ppg and 4.2 apg 6.0 rpg. The results for the remaining players, the reserves, for the all-star squad will be announced Thursday. Turkoglu had a game high 27, and man-beast Dwight Howard (starting the all-star game at center) added 18 points and 16 rebounds. Other scorers in double figures for Orlando were Rashard Lewis with 15 and finally Maurice Evans and Brian Cook with 11.

For the Celtics, Paul Pierce led the way with 24 points on 9 of 18 shooting along with nine rebounds, Ray Allen had 17. Tony Allen had 16 off the bench and Rajon Rondo had 15 to go along with six steals.

At the end of the day though, it takes a tough, tough shot from Hedo Turkoglu to beat Boston without Kevin Garnett? I'll take that any day because there is no doubt in my mind that Kevin Garnett more than makes up for a three point difference. (when factoring in his offensive and defensive ability)

In other Boston sports news the Red Sox acquired David Aardsma from the White Sox in exchange for Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich. There's nothing like a little hot stove news to warm up the winter, and Buster Olney reports that Johan Santana will likely get traded within 10 days or so.

Bryant Bulldogs basketball will be back in action at the Chace Athletic Center for the first time since the majority of students have returned from winter break to take on St. Anselm College. Women play at 5:30 and men will start around 7:00. I'll be back on the mic for the broadcast along with SJ for at least the women's game.
